Did You Know?

This was Akira Kurosawa's only collaboration with famed film composer Akira Ifukube. The two clashed intensely over creative differences during filming.

Censors for the American Occupation Forces ordered changes to the script by Akira Kurosawa and Senkichi Taniguchi, especially the bleak ending in which Kyoji goes mad. They were concerned that people with syphilis would be too horrified to seek treatment.

The Quiet Duel was a co-production between Film Art Association and Daiei Studios, and Akira Kurosawa first directorial project outside of the Toho Studio.
