I think Kenneth Anger's work was very personal and in some ways inaccessible. They're actually more like works of art and music, anyway and so do not require conventional movie analysis. Almost everything I've seen of his work is incredibly moving. "Puce Moment" is an unbearably sad, bittersweet elegy to a time long past. It's hypnotic and dreamlike and irresistible. The music, which may have been added later, is perfect. It's melancholy and kind of slows the action down and it makes the girl seem slightly intoxicated or delirious and out-of-touch. It complements the visual sense beautifully. Obviously, "Puce Moment" would not appeal to many, but if you like to be taken in emotionally by things that are not meant to be understood or consciously dealt with, try and find this as part of Anger "Magick Lantern Cycle". Also incredible on pretty much the same theme is "Rabbit's Moon". It is the ultimate romantic longing...
