- A young lawyer is involved with a ghostly woman in his new house, where the builder and his fiancée died shortly after it was built.
- The story is about a man Shankar who moves into an old n abandoned palace. Upon his visit to the palace, he is greeted by the gardener who tells him that the palace was inhabited by a couple forty years back and that the couple died one aft another cos of their intense love. Shankar is astonished when he sees the photo of the old owner which looks exactly like him. At night time Shankar follows a woman singing n the moment he approaches, she disappears. He tells this to his friend but the friend warms him to stay away from the palace. The ghost appears again but this time she warns the friend to not come between Shankar n her. - Hari Shankar (Ashok Kumar) comes to claim his inheritance - a palatial building known as Shabnam Mahal. He does not see anything out of the normal, until he sees his portrait on the wall. The housekeeper tells him the background of the portrait and the tragic ending of two lovers. Later, Hari Shankar sees a woman singing and swinging in the garden swing, when he approaches, she disappears. Both the housekeeper and his lawyer friend, Shrinath, warn Hari Shankar, and ask him to stay away from this house, he does so, only to be drawn back. No one can help Hari Shankar now as he continues to be drawn deeper and deeper into the dark world of the ghostly apparition. - Shankar, a handsome lawyer, moves into the Mahal-an old, dark and abandoned mansion with a tragic history. He notes his resemblance to a portrait of the former owner and soon afterwards is approached by the spirit of Kamini, the owner's mistress. She orders him to either die or marry her incarnation, a servant's daughter named Asha. Shankar soon becomes obsessed with the ghost-to the point where his worried friend Srinath arranges for Shankar to marry the beautiful Ranjana. However, Shankar's obsession only intensifies after the wedding and he forces poor Ranjana to live in a vermin-infested shack. She soon commits suicide, accusing Shankar in her dying words, and soon he is arrested for her assumed murder. Later, Asha, now married to Srinath, reveals she had masqueraded as Kamini. However, a suicide note from Ranjana is found - and soon Shankar, still obsessed, is set free and on his way back to the Mahal.—Q. Leo Rahman
