Warning: Spoilers
"Triggerman" is a so-so Johnny Mack Brown western. He plays himself in this installment with the dependable Raymond Hatton along as his side kick.

Johnny rides into town looking for the Daley ranch to find a job. Moran (Marshall Reed) gives him directions and then reports to his boss real estate agent Kirby (Bill Kennedy) who has been trying to buy the ranch from present owner Lois Benton (Virginia Carroll). Daley, the original owner (unseen) is in jail on a payroll theft charge.

After talking things over with foreman Rusty Steele (Hatton), Johnny becomes suspicious of Kirby and decides to go town to seek him out. There is immediate friction between the two and Johnny is forced to duke it out with Moran. The McGuffin of the story is a pay chest buried in some unknown location.

A stranger, Harris (Forrest Matthews) is found sneaking around Benton's barn. Johnny and Rusty chase him down and Rusty removes a have of a map from Harris' pocket without telling Johnny. Harris goes to town and meets Kirby who informs him that he possesses the other half of the map. The complete map will lead to the buried cash chest. Harris informs Kirby that Rusty holds the other half of the map and the two make plans to get the missing half.

Kirby, Harris and the boys kidnap Lois and offer to exchange her for the other half of the map. Johnny and Rusty live up to their side of the bargain but Kirby double crosses them and keeps Lois as a hostage. Lois manages to escape but is pursued by Harris. Johnny and Rusty overpower Kirby's man who had been holding them and go after Harris. Harris is shot down by Johnny. Johnny has revealed that he is an undercover agent for Wells Fargo in search of the missing loot.

Kirby follows the full map and he and Moran dig up the cash box. Johnny, Rusty and Lois trail them to the Benton barn where the box has been located. It seems that Lois has a special reason for being the first to open the box. After wresting the box from Kirby, Rusty pulls his gun on Johnny and the others to allow Loisd to be the first to open the box and..............................................................................

There's not much action in this oater outside of Brown's two fights with Reed. There's no getaway by the gang leader at the climax and Kennedy, for that matter, is a rather colorless villain. Marshall Reed, who was a frequent cast member in the Brown series is the best of the bad men here. Still and all not a bad little "B"
