Dark side of a wholesome lad leads him into trouble

In this 60 minute film, Jimmy Lydon is a young and apparently honest clerk who doesn't have enough money to marry pretty Lois Collier. She rather doubts his courage but hangs in with him. One day Marc Lawrence shows up with his gang and robs Jimmy's place of work, leaving $100,000 behind. Jimmy impetuously takes the money and doesn't look back. Once this deed is done, Jimmy faces complications which he follows out almost to the point of murder. And, lacking in criminal knowledge, he soon comes face to face with gangster Lawrence, who adds immeasurably to the proceedings. Richard Travis adds further interest as a benign insurance investigator.

So, is this noir or not? It's noir, if only noir-lite. Jimmy is morally ambiguous. At the end, we are left wondering about his character and what he might do next. Fate does play a few tricks on him. There are some night scenes that lend a noir ambiance, even if the lensing is not especially tuned in to the noir style. Noir completists will want to track down this film. Others will enjoy it for what it is, a brief but reasonably involving suspense story.
