Thief Meurisse and actress Signoret cannot rekindle a lost love
13 May 2013 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Impasse des Deux Anges" refers in the movie to a dead-end street that brings memories back to former lovers Paul Meurisse and Simone Signoret, and the dead-end is a metaphor for the current possibility of love.

This dead-end location is one they flee to and within when criminal Meurisse is pursued by gang members. Meurisse is a safecracker who is working with them and they want the jewels he has stolen. Signoret is to be married the following day, but she is swept away by the possibility of rekindling her love of 7 years earlier with Meurisse.

This picture is a serious and solid film noir in all ways: characters, themes, and cinematography. It's surely not a comedy as IMDb says! It's a modest story but nicely balanced and executed, with good delineation of all strata in society, from highest to lowest on the ladder. It will be a pleasure for noir fans who may view it. Definitely recommended.
