Valley of Fear (1947) Poster

Ed Cassidy: Les Travers

Quotes

  • Johnny Williams : You better tell us who killed those two men, or you'll find yourself dangling from the end of a rope.

Les Travers : Yeah? Well, I know better. Shootin' at somebody ain't no hangin' offense.

Johnny Williams : No, but murder is.

Les Travers : Yeah? Well, I ain't kill nobody. You can't pin anything like that on me!

Johnny Williams : What's to prevent Rusty and I from saying we saw you do the killing.

Les Travers : You wouldn't dare pull a trick like that. Why, that's perjury!

Rusty Peters : Well, you ought to know. You've been lyin' plenty about Stevens.

Johnny Williams : Make up your mind. Do you want to talk or hang?

  • [having been given just a week to pay his mortgage's interest, Travers examines his dead wife's diamond jewelry and sighs]

Joan Travers : Dad, you're not thinking of selling them. They were Mother's. You can't do that. You've cherished them for years. They're all you have left to remind you of her.

Les Travers : You're wrong, dear. I still have you.

  • [last lines]

Henry Stevens : It's been quite a struggle, but now we're ready to go. This map tells the story.

Joan Travers : Isn't it wonderful, Dad, that you're finally starting the dam. Just think what it will mean to the country in a couple of years.

Les Travers : Yes, thanks to Johnny.

Joan Travers : By the way, where is Johnny?

    Rusty Peters : He's gone.

    Henry Stevens : Gone? Where?

    Rusty Peters : Just gone.

Joan Travers : Oh, but we didn't get a chance to thank him.

Rusty Peters : Well, that's why he's gone. He just don't like to be thanked.
