Agent James Warren undermines a gang
15 March 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Sunset Pass" (1946) is a nicely-turned b-western against lovely scenery in Lone Pine, California. Lanky James Warren heads the cast as an agent out to get a gang led by Harry Woods. Warren's a commanding presence. He's assisted by John Laurenz who has eyes for vivacious Jane Greer who is a dance hall entertainer who sings and dances. If she's dubbed in singing, it sounds like her. Greer's bubbly personality here is miles away from her femme fatale appearance. Warren has eyes for Nan Leslie, but her brother, really not a bad guy, has gotten mixed up with Woods's gang. Helping out Woods is Steve Brodie as a bank and express agent who gets the inside dope on money shipments. Brodie is effective as always, a reliable RKO man. There's more than enough action and horses riding at full speed. The stunt men take some high velocity falls and jump on a moving train. It's easy to take films like this for granted, but they're still entertaining and look good after almost 70 years.
