Journalist Elizabeth Lane is one of the country's most famous food writers. In her columns, she describes herself as a hard working farm woman, taking care of her children and being an excellent cook. But this is all lies. In reality she is an unmarried New Yorker who can't even boil an egg. The recipes come from her good friend Felix. Until 1949 US Navy enlisted rank (rating) was separated by occupational type; Seaman ratings and Artificer ratings. Seaman ratings were worn on the right sleeve and Articifer ratings were worn on the left. Our hero identifies himself as a Quartermaster which is a sea occupation thus properly wearing his rating on his right sleeve. See more
