User Reviews

A real bomb, dreadfully bad in every way possible.

This is a travesty of a film. Purporting to be a biography of WWI flying ace, Eddie Rickenbacker, it is one of the most ill-conceived, poorly written, directed and acted films in movie history. We see only a three minute montage of Rickenbacker in WWI aerial action. The rest is couched in two tediously long flashbacks covering his childhood desire to fly and master machinery and his youthful romancing of his wife to be while he is involved in improving the automobile. The cast tries to behave as if they are about something important but the script is a mess, there is no point of view and everything in it is both fictionalized and unimaginative. Incredibly boring and worthy of being "lost." Inexplicably, the Academy nominated it for Special Effects which consist of one sequence less than a minute long in the beginning of a plane crash landing in the ocean and eventually sinking. Big deal- this film should have been honored with nothing and deserves its oblivion.
