Ansa Ikonen, one of the kind
Petey-1021 November 2008
In T.J.Särkkä's Vaivaisukon morsian (1944) Ansa Ikonen finds religion and she has followers. She plays Anna Kristina Ringars who's getting married to the boozing Elias Matinpoika Berg (Tauno Palo). He dies while dancing with this wooden figure in front of the church. She becomes mad and takes the figure to her house. She tries to commit suicide but is interfered by God.Anna starts her own parish, a revivalist movement and is joined by many of the villagers. The movie takes place in the early 19th century. It gives a very good picture of that era.Ansa Ikonen does very good job in the lead. She earned a Jussi Award for Best Actress.Tauno Palo, who was seen with her in many movies, is also very good in his part. Also Eino Kaipainen, who acted with Ansa in pretty many movies, is there playing Antti. His character is sympathetic who likes and supports Anna. The very fine Aku Korhonen plays Carpenter.Yrjö Tuominen plays the Vicar who's against Anna's movement.Jalmari Rinne, who was Ansa Ikonen's husband is the vicious Police chief.Urho Somersalmi is Metsä-Olli.Uuno Laakso plays Dyer.Siiri Angerkoski is Elisabet.Veikko Linna is Blacksmith.Annie Mörk is seen in the part of Woman from the other village.Mervi Järventaus is Old woman's granddaughter.Kyllikki Väre, who was actor Esko Salminen's mother, is Torpan-Mari.She won a Jussi Award for Best Supporting Actress.Vaivaisukon morsian has some dramatic events, especially at the end when people go crazy. This is a good movie to watch in these times when many people have lost their religion and it doesn't play such a big role in our world anymore.
