Cattleman with a conscience
21 August 2013 | by (Buffalo, New York) – See all my reviews

Sheriff Of Sundown departs from the usual formula of westerns where the Texas cattlemen are the ones shooting up the town and the forces of law and order have to stop them. Allan Lane plays a cattleman with a conscience who does not like seeing his smaller neighbors being taken advantage of by crafty cattle buyer Roy Barcroft.

His answer to form a cattle buyer's association and give the little guys fair market value for their beef. Naturally Barcroft does not like losing his monopoly and will resort to anything including murdering sheriff Tom London of the town of Sundown, Kansas.

Though no name is attached to the trio, Lane operates like the Three Mesquiteers or any of those other trio westerns that saturated the movie market back then. His companions are Max Terhune and Duncan Renaldo and Sheriff Of Sundown has the feel of a Three Mesquiteers film.

A good western from Allan Lane before he became 'Rocky'.
