Bob Hackett has been raised by an outlaw named Jim Hackett, believing him to be his father. Dying of wounds from a bank-robbery shoot-out, Jim tells Bob that he is actually the son of a famous lawman killed on duty, supposedly by a man named Jackson. Bob and his pal, "Buckshot," ride to Santa Fe with the bank loot of $22,000, intending to return it. Outside the town, they rescue Ruth Gordon and her kid sister, Winky, from Jackson's gang, and Bob is made marshal of Santa Fe. Bob is about to pin a rustling charge on Jackson but the latter get a reward circular from the bank the Hackett gang had robbed and steals the $22,000 before Bob can return it.
