Storyline

In 1877, the mule of prospector Hayes knocks over a rock filled with Silver. With the rich strike, Hayes want to build a peaceful town, but with the mines comes outlaws and Epitaph is soon overrun by the criminals. Tracy Dalton is the boss behind the outlaws and things look up when Bill Elliott passes through town. However, Bill is just passing through, but a few bullets tossed at him and a pretty school teacher make him stay for a few days to look into ending the lawlessness.

Gabby Hayes and Bill Elliot help a small boy become a good American in this feel good B western from 1944.

An interesting B western for Bill Elliot and Gabby Hayes. Hayes actually plays himself and in the beginning seemed to be the star of the picture. He plays an old prospector who has tried to "live by the book and make the world safe for the weak". In steps Wild Bill Elliot to help. Subplot centers around a small boy who hero worships the towns bad guy. Gabby tries to get the boy to goto school, at the school that he set up just for the boy in this small mining "town" he founded. An entertaining feel good picture with a pro-Americanism subplot that was typical of movies made during world war 2. I am a big fan of B westerns from the 30's and 40's. I throughly enjoyed this picture.
