Bugs is the Masked Marauder, a carrot thief whom Brooklyn's Red Hot Ryder must try to bring to justice.
Did You Know?
This is also the first Bugs Bunny cartoon to feature the Warner Bros. shield transforming into his head during the intro. (Unlike the Porky head in the earlier "Brother Brat" and the Daffy head in the later "Plane Daffy", the Bugs head doesn't stay on screen for the Looney Tunes card in this cartoon.)
Starting with "Hare Trigger", intros would later revert to the version of "reclining Bugs" seen in "The Heckling Hare" before permanently adopting the Bugs head in 1948. See more
The entire cartoon, which is set in the Old West, is predicated on the Masked Marauder stealing carrots from a victory garden. Victory over what? The victory garden is a reference to World War II (which was going on during this cartoon's production), but the cartoon's setting is well before that.
Plus, the desert environment wouldn't support victory gardens. See more
