Great Spooky Comedy
10 August 2005 | by (Valencia, Spain) – See all my reviews

The Stooges did a few shorts that had a Haunted House or Spooky Ghosts theme, and they were all funny and slightly spooky for kids to watch. This is one of my favorites because it is so corny and over-the-top that you have to laugh if you are a Stooges fan.

Unlike some of the Stooge shorts that take a shot at the rich and privileged, this one is mostly just mindless fun. The early minutes feature the Stooges trying to make money as door-to-door salesmen, and those scenes are probably funnier than the rest of the short. The only thing that the Stooges manage to sell is a sign that says "No Peddlers." The scenes inside the house and with the spooks are not as good as some of the other Haunted House shorts, but there are a lot of funny moments with Curly interacting separately with Moe or Larry. The pies being tossed around is a mystery that lives to this day. Maybe that was the joke, and it worked since the mystery pies are being mentioned sixty years later (and maybe centuries from now). The Stooges were awesome, and it is a shame that more kids today will not get to see them.
