Hugh Jackman was shocked to hear he's been nominated for one of next year's Golden Globe Awards. The Australian star was at Los Angeles' Beverly Hilton Hotel Thursday morning to present the nominations for next year's ceremony alongside Lucy Liu and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. But Hugh had the tables turned on him when he was told he was one of five stars nominated for Best Actor in a musical or comedy - for his role in upcoming flick Kate & Leopold. And Hugh - one of a host of Australians honored with nominations - was stunned to be named. He says, "It's a thrilling morning and I'm delighted that lots of other Aussies are up there with me. We used to watch the Golden Globes and the Oscars at home in Australia when I was a kid and have parties - but we never did them as well as the Americans." Jackman - who won't be seen in Kate & Leopold until its release in America on Christmas Day - will have to beat Ewan McGregor, Billy Bob Thornton, Gene Hackman and John Cameron Mitchell to pick up the gong at the ceremony on January 20th. »

Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese has confirmed his new film, Gangs Of New York, has had its U.S. release date pushed back because of the New York terror attacks. The director released a statement saying the film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz, was due to be released in America later this year. Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of the film's production company Miramax, says, "Our decision to postpone the film's release is based on its setting in downtown Manhattan during the Civil War in the midst of the 1860's draft riots - one of the most difficult and challenging times in American history. In light of the ever-changing current events, we have chosen to err on the side of sensitivity and postpone the wide release of the film until 2002." It is not known whether Miramax will give the film a one-week limited run in December to qualify it for the Oscars, but given that the new expected release date is likely to be around Oscar-time, it would not be surprising. Replacing Gangs Of New York on Miramax's national release slate for December is Kate & Leopold, starring Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman. »
