Forest Urge Rupert To Carry On Smoking In Casablanca

16 August 2000 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Smokers' rights group Forest are urging Rupert Everett to make sure his plans to revamp movie classic Casablanca (1942) include smokey scenes. Rupert plans to remake the 1942 classic with Julia Roberts and set it in modern- day Morocco. And Forest chiefs hope he doesn't chop out classic film noir scenes of characters smoking in the shadows - in favor of a more politically correct stance. Forest director Simon Clark says, "Casablanca is the classic smokers' film and it wouldn't be the same without those smokey moments. All smokers love it because it has that classic cool about it." The group are planning to host a special showing of the film at Notting Hill London's Coronet cinema, where smoking is permitted in the auditorium. »
