Storyline

Twinkletoes is sleeping on the counter at the "Wide-Awake Delivery Service." when Mysto the Magician telephones and wants his magical paraphernalia picked up at his home and delivered to the theatre in five minutes. The twinkly-one runs to the magician's house, picks up the heavy suitcase and flitters off in a hurry. But the case pops open and out pops Mysto's magical hat and other tools-of-the-trade. The rabbit escapes from the hat and Twinky has to chase it, while being flabbergasted at the magical display going on all around him. Will he get to the theatre on time? A Hat Time in the Old Town
11 February 2010 | by (New York City) – See all my reviews

With the success of their first animated feature, GULLIVER'S TRAVELS, the Fleischer brothers decided to move some of that movies' supporting characters into their own series of short cartoons. The spies got their own, billed as 'Sneak, Snoop and Snitch'; the obnoxious Gabby got his own series; and even the carrier pigeon got a few shorts as "Twinkletoes', all under the general title of ANIMATED ANTICS, which included a few one offs.

In this one, the last Animated Antics, Twinkletoes is called upon to deliver a magician's overnight bag to him. After three-minutes of character-setting comedy, the actual plot of the movie gets off the ground. Naturally, the contents of the bag are.... well, I'm sure you can figure it out. Dave Fleischer's pile-one-gag-on-another structure is much in evidence here, keeping up the general interest, although the wilder gags had been cut since the Production Code took away Betty Boop's garter. The result is a good if not great cartoon.
