Every time I see British character actress Sarah Padden on screen, I just want to reach through it and hug her. As the owner of a ranch in financial trouble due to dust storms, she is overwhelmed by the reception that she is given upon her upon her arrival (having been willed the ranch by her late husband who rarely visited it), but unaware of the financial issues it faces. The Three Mesquiters (Robert Livingston, Bob Steele, Rufe Davis) and sweet June Johnson will do everything they can to protect Padden from ruthless neighbor rancher George Douglas who is determined to ride them off by collecting all of the wild horses in the area.
Probably one of the longest running western series, this entry is delightfully homespun and sweet with Padden just a barrel of sunshine in the otherwise brutal weather ridden conditions. This is a fast moving entry with plenty of action, humor and song, and a storyline with good guys (and elder gals) you can truly root for. I've been a fan of Padden ever since the first time I saw her (usually everybody's beloved granny), and she dominates this film without really trying. At under an hour, this is a must, not only for B Western fans, but for anyone who ever had a grandmother they couldn't get enough of.
