Disney had its live-action wildlife documentaries . . .
20 February 2016 | by (The Gutters of Baltimore) – See all my reviews

. . .but few House of Mouse offerings were as authentically representative of Nature (not to mention as entertaining) as this Warner Bros. animated short, LITTLE BROTHER RAT. "Sniffles" is a member of a field mice colony numbering in the dozens. Venturing indoors--outside his Comfort Zone--Sniffles plucks a cat whisker, leaving him one item short of winning the Scavenger Hunt central to a Year of the Mouse Lunar New Year's Party: namely, an owl egg. Though male owls, like penguins, are responsible for making sure eggs turn into Hatchlings, they're notoriously inept at this function (which is why you see fewer flocks of owls than Canadian geese). Sniffles plays midwife to Mr. Owl's "Junior," which happens more often than you'd guess in The Wild. Naturally, this owlet immediately "imprints" on his rodent OB-GYN, not entirely with the latter's approval. But Sniffles learns that it's no easier to put an owlet back into its egg than it is to put the country back in a girl. Meanwhile, the cat's still a whisker short, and gunning for trouble. Stay tuned.
