Grade B musical set in Mexico, even Martha Raye can't save it
12 February 2001 | by (Putney, VT) – See all my reviews

This is a grade B musical set in Mexico. Milland is a Hollywood writer who is sent to Mexico to learn about romance, although he is engaged to a star. He falls for native Lamour and star (Barnes) comes to fetch him. The score is delightful and deserved its Oscar nom, but all else is rather dull going. Even Martha Raye trying valiantly can't evoke a single laugh. That's saying a lot against the material. See it only if you are a fan of any of the stars.
