In 1938,"Speed to Burn" introduced the Gambini family,headed by Henry Armetta,returning in this sequel,"Road Demon," both directed by Otto Brower.Here,an aspiring race car driver(Henry Arthur)fulfills his dream of winning the big race(aided by the Gambini family),and wins the love of the pretty sister(Joan Valerie)of a fellow racer(Thomas Beck)hoping to vindicate their father,who was killed by racketeers in an earlier race.Jonathan Hale is cast against type as the head villain,his three henchmen played by Murray Alper,Edward J.Marr,and Lon Chaney Jr.Edward Gargan shows up as a truck driver,and Bill "Bojangles" Robinson contributes a brief tap dance as the local junk dealer who provides spare parts for the hero.These little "B" pictures always benefit from solid character players.
