Storyline

Doctor Quack is doing an operation, and Daffy is his assistant. Things start out sedately enough, with Daffy asking for quiet in various ways. Then the operation starts, and after handing over instruments at a ever-increasing pace, Daffy loses it and is ejected. He gets his head stuck in an iron lung, and feels the effects for a while. Daffy goes in search of a patient of his own, and Porky happens to walk by in time to fall victim to Daffy's mallet. Daffy hits himself on the head and has a consultation with the second and third image of himself. They agree to operate; Daffy chases Porky, and they both get stuck in the iron lung. Trivia

Neither Robert Clampett nor Chuck Jones cared much for this short, not because they thought it was bad, but because it used an iron lung as a gag prop at a time when polio deaths were on the rise. See more »

Bizarre
2 September 2000 | by (Somewhere in New Jersey) – See all my reviews

Surreal and fascinating, it's not terribly funny by todays standards, but still unusual . Daffy is a "quack" doctor who helps to operate on a patient by using various bits of machinery and artillery , before being kicked out and making a patient out of Porky Pig. Daffy hasn't matured in voice , design, or attitude, and Porky is almost a cameo, but the operation and the parts where parts of Daffy inflate after iron lung treatment are classics. Still surreal.
