Sex & Nudity

  • After many years, Rocky is still romantically attracted to his childhood sweetheart. But no sex is shown.

  • Two mentions of the word "boner", though this is clearly used in a non-sexual context.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Young people (adolescent age) smoke and drink.

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Mostly minor slappings and punches. Near the end men are shot at and killed. Rocky murders two crooked state officials who were planning to doublecross him. At one point, he takes his best friend hostage, although he does not really intend to harm him.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • None, though the final scene when the main character (Rocky) is about to be electrocuted may make an impact on young viewers on the implications of his death: he cries and screams for mercy. (His best friend, a priest, has asked him to pretend to turn coward on his way to execution to destroy the slum gang's hero worship of him. He refuses, but begins to cry and scream at the last minute. We never know if he has really turned coward or is doing this as a favor for his friend.) He is shown in shadow silhouette struggling with the guards. His "Please don't kill me!" is cut off in mid-scream by the electric current surging through his body - not as disturbing as it would be if done in a more modern style, but still fairly disturbing. But we do not actually see him die, only the reactions of the witnesses.
