Storyline

Porky tries out his new hunting gear and blasts a hole in his apartment roof (and neighbor's backside). At the swamp, neither he nor the other hunters can hit anything. Porky sets out decoys, then can't tell the real duck from them; he wades out there, but his shotgun gets waterlogged. He shoots a barrel of rum, and some fish get drunk, get in a rowboat, and sing "Moonlight Bay". Porky thinks he's shot Daffy and sends his dog out to retrieve him, but Daffy brings the dog back. After some more shenanigans, Porky breaks out his duck call, which gets him (and his dog, after he swallows it) shot at. They go home, dejected, where the ducks taunt him some more and his gun jams again. Written by Jon Reeves <jreeves@imdb.com>

the beginning of Daffy Duck
22 June 2005 | by (Portland, Oregon, USA) – See all my reviews

It's hard to believe that this was literally the first time that Daffy Duck ever appeared in a cartoon, but it's the truth. Porky Pig plays a hunter going out to shoot a duck (he has to go out; he antagonized the man upstairs after accidentally firing the gun). Needless to say, while hunting, he comes across Daffy, and the latter can't get shot. After a weird snafu, Porky has to go (and by "go", I mean "run") back home.

"Porky's Duck Hunt" seems pretty low-brow compared to later cartoons, but if nothing else, it's good as a historical reference. When I was really young and watched a lot of the Looney Tunes cartoons, I always wondered why Porky Pig and Bugs Bunny never co-starred.
