- A young parrot, against his mother's wishes, wants to become a mariner like his no-account father, runs away from home, and heads for the ocean with a young duck who wants to join him.
- Momma parrot is teaching her young-uns to say "Polly want a cracker" but little Peter doesn't want a cracker, he wants to be a sailor like dad. Mom tells him what a no-account his dad really was, setting sail for Hawaii ("no, Maw, it was Catalina") right after the kids were born. Peter is unswayed, and takes off. He turns a barrel into a boat, and crews it with an annoyingly talkative duckling, then sets sail on a lake. They get caught in a thunderstorm (the duck loves it). Peter calls for help and momma comes running, but the duck has already saved him. But he still wants to be a sailor.—Jon Reeves <jreeves@imdb.com>
- A parrot mother is teaching her three children to say "Polly wanna cracker." However, Peter Parrot, the third child in the family, doesn't want a cracker. He wants to be a sailor like his father. The mother parrot, disappointed and kind of mad at Peter, tells him a story about his drunkard father--she did all the work, and raised the kids, while the father set out for Catilina. At first, she is convinced that Peter no longer wants to be a sailor. But when Peter lets out a big "yes," it makes the poor mother faint! Peter leaves his humble birdcage and takes a walk in the backyard, presumably trying to go to sea. He smashes head-first into a barrel, and realizes it would make a great ship! He finally makes it to a lake and gets to work. As this happens, a motor-mouth duck crosses his path, spitting out questions by the second. Peter manages to shut him up by using an old clothespin, and tells him his plans in song. While singing, Peter adds the last few touches to the ship--like using a poison bottle label as a Jolly Roger flag. He makes the motor-mouth duck the ship's janitor. Peter lifts up the "ship's" anchor, and he is ready to sail! To celebrate him becoming a "man," he gets out some black licorice and spits it like it's chewing tobacco. Feeling very proud, he climbs up the mast and checks the weather. But alas, things aren't looking so hot for Peter. A storm emerges from the clouds and frightens Peter. The duck is of no help, as he enjoys the rain and starts to dance around in it. While the duck is having his moment, Peter's a nervous wreck. He tries to make the ship turn back, to no avail. Eventually, Peter throws the ship's anchor into the raging seas, and the ship falls apart. The duck and Peter make a quick escape, and Peter cries out for his mother. Amazingly, Peter's mother hears his cries and arrives in the nick of time. The duck punches Peter in the face and throws him onto land. The mother, relieved that Peter is okay, asks him one last time if he still wants to be a sailor. Despite everything he went through, Peter still replies with a big "yes!" The mother faints one last time, learning that Peter is a very stubborn child.
