  • Peter tells Heidi that her grandfather might cut her head off if he gets really mad at her. Peter pantomimes cutting Heidi's throat, and she has an alarmed reaction to it. After Heidi is introduced to her grandfather, she sees him with a large kitchen knife. She braces herself as though something bad may happen, but sees that he is only cutting food. She breathes a sigh of relief.

Profanity

  • The term "Gypsy" is used, which by today's standards can be considered racially derogatory. A Romani individual is portrayed negatively.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man in a detentional cell is visibly intoxicated and hits a bench against the cell wall while singing.
  • The grandfather is seen smoking a pipe.

  • Fraülein Rottenmeier kidnaps Heidi to sell her to the Roma, but she is rescued by her grandfather. He is accused of being the kidnapper and taken away by police as Heidi frantically yells and holds onto him.
  • Aunt Dete steals Heidi away from her grandfather by telling Heidi they are only going on a trip. After finding Heidi missing, the grandfather frantically runs after them, but they are already being driven away in a sleigh.
