His brother, Alec Ferguson, is not convinced it was and accident, and goes to New York to uncover the truth. Posing as a fellow townsman named Steve Moreau who is unable to accept an offer to play with the Indians because of an injury, Alec wins a place with the team. He learns that the team, a member of a nation-wide professional league, has been throwing games on the orders of a gambling ring. He meets Betty Holland, the pretty daughter of team coach Joe Holland and falls in love with her. He plays along with Adams and Drake and learns that the owner, Rudy Maxwell, is the head of the gambling ring and has Coach Holland under control because of bad checks written to pay off gambling losses. Trivia

From "Weekly Variety": "Film features Charles Quigley on top, but sharing with Rita Hayworth, who broke in recently with a small dancing role in one of his pictures. Brunette is a looker and talks the role well; we will probably see her more often in the Columbia prints of the future." See more »

Very short movie, which might interest Rita Hayworth's fans ,although do not expect the sex symbol of "Gilda";she is cast as a nice pretty wise girl, the coach' s daughter ,an occasional journalist in love with the new member of the hockey team;the plot deals with the (accidental?)death of a loyal player :his brother ,in order to investigate ,joins the team under a French pseudo "Moreau";the plot features blackmail ,rigged games,hostage-taking ,business as usual ;but the games are well filmed and the screenplay well constructed .One may think that the final verdict is a little hard on the alcoholic player ,who is not really evil, victim of his vice (or is it because of remorse he went to the booze?)
