Storyline

Marcia Prentiss, a New England spinster, is annoyed when reaching her summer home to find that her niece, Betsy Ann, is there after being told to remain in school, but is there because she misses her sweetheart, Tom Squires. Abigail Prentiss, a younger niece, looks up her old friend Asa Plunkett, who left Marcia at the altar many years ago to go fishing. She finds him in jail. The townspeople have long ridiculed Asa's assertion that there is buried pirates treasure nearby, he being known as the biggest liar in the country or, at least, in seven states. Abigail believes him and her faith is confirmed when she finds an old map indicating where the treasure is buried. Asa breaks jail to start an immediate search. But, before he starts, he shows the map to a local shady character, George Chester, who determines to hijack the treasure with the assistance of his girlfriend, Mabel. Talented child star Sybil Jason hasn't much to work with here, but check out Gus Shy.
5 December 2000 | by (Pine Grove, California) – See all my reviews

Sybil Jason was Warner Brothers' answer to Shirley Temple -- a child star who can sing and act well. But she is so cloying here it negates any personality she has. The problem is more with the screenplay, which has her act like a ninny most of the time, not realizing what can help or hurt a person. She does sing the title song nicely. The plot involves buried treasure and a set of crooks which is somewhat entertaining.

I did enjoy seeing Gus Shy, an actor I have seen in other movies. He looks, sounds and has mannerisms so much like Danny Thomas, I thought they might have been related. He's worth checking out, even though his part is small.
