This film marked the first appearance of Loretta Young since the release of Call of the Wild (1935) in April 1935. Young was borrowed from Twentieth Century-Fox for the picture. It was Young's first picture after secretly giving birth to her daughter, Judy. On the icy location for 20th Century's The Call of the Wild (1935), single Young and married Clark Gable had had a liaison which resulted in a secret pregnancy and birth, masking it later as an "adoption."
