Paris  — Denmark’s contribution to the European Co-production Forum at 2017’s Series Mania came in the form of the Cold War era political thriller M.A.D, short for Mutually Assured Destruction. The show is being produced by Arena Films with backing from Viaplay, the Modern Times Group’s Svod service available in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and the Baltic countries. Viaplay offers unlimited rental streaming packages with access to high-end TV, film and sports.

Representing the project in Paris were producer and co-creator Ulrik Bolt Jørgensen and lead-writer and co-creator Michael Soussan. Soussan, having worked at the United Nations, CNN, and contributed to many major news publications in the U.S., recently had his 2008 book “Backstabbing for Beginners” adapted into a feature film starring Ben Kingsley and Theo James. It is due out this fall.

Modern Times Group punched record sales and a 15% increase in operating profits during the first quarter of this year, bolstered by its big push into premium content as well as its thriving streaming platforms Viaplay and Viafree.

Operative profits reached Sek 183 million ($20 million) while net sales were up 11% to Sek 4.2 billion ($4.7 billion) and earnings before interest and taxes rose by 22%. It was the third consecutive quarter with organic sales growth of more than 5%.

Mtg has been ramping up investments in both linear and streamed entertainment products. The company for instance launched Viafree in Sweden, Norway and Denmark last year. Hundreds of Charlie Chaplin Fans Dress as ‘The Tramp’ to Celebrate His Birthday

16 April 2017 3:39 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

“Tramps” united in Switzerland on Sunday to celebrate Charlie Chaplin on what would have been the actor’s 128th birthday, the Associated Press reports.

Hundreds of fans — young and old — dressed as the comedian’s “Tramp” and gathered at his former home in Switzerland, where Chaplin lived for 25 years until his death in 1977.

According to Chaplin’s World museum, 662 people — sporting mustaches, canes, black bowler hats, and black suits — congregated at the Manoir de Ban in Corsier-sur-Vevey near Lake Geneva on Sunday, which also marked the museum’s one-year anniversary. “We did it! 662 people dressed as the Tramp are gathering to celebrate our first anniversary. #IamPartoftheLegend #ChaplinsWorld,” the museum’s Twitter account tweeted.

The Knowledge: The World’s Toughest Taxi Test review – nervous would-be cabbies rack their brains

12 April 2017 11:20 PM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

This documentary for the reality TV generation offered plenty of tension, but little insight into the lives of the black-cab hopefuls

In 1996, the Modern Times strand on BBC2 produced a captivating, hour-long film about the students and teachers of the Knowledge, the rigorous test passed by London’s official cabbies before they can start picking up passengers. Streetwise, directed by Mark Phillips, described the gruelling course of map study and the motives and backstories of the participants and probed the personalities of the feared inspectors to find out what made them tick – armed only with traditional cameras and the director’s considerable imagination. Phillips was endlessly inventive, using the sound and vision mixer’s skills to achieve something that, at times, came close to poetry.

In The Knowledge: The World’s Toughest Taxi Test (Channel 4) from the Cutting Edge strand, film-maker, Hannah Lowes covers exactly the same ground, but »

Drg takes on sales of 'Veni Vidi Vici' starring Thomas Bo Larsen

3 April 2017 1:11 AM, PDT | ScreenDaily | See recent ScreenDaily news »

Mtg’s off-beat Nordic series set in the world of adult movies premiered at Miptv.

UK-based worldwide content distributor Drg has taken on sales of Nordic thriller Veni Vidi Vici, about a washed-up arthouse film director who gets caught up in the world of porn.

It is the latest Nordic series with international ambitions from Swedish production and distribution outfit Mtg Studios.

Both companies are owned by burgeoning digital entertainment company Modern Times Group (Mtg), but Mtg Studios does not automatically distribute its productions through Drg.

Its recent comedy series Swedish Dicks - co-starring Keanu Reeves and Peter Stormare - is being sold internationally by Lionsgate, for example.

In the 10-part series Veni Vidi Vici, Danish actor Thomas Bo Larsen stars as pretentious film director Karsten Daugaard who agrees to direct a porn movie after his latest arthouse romance flops at the box office.

The decision introduces Karsten to the murky world of adult entertainment and will »
