According to newspaper journalist Sheilah Graham
, who reported on the making of the film in a syndicated news column, the set of the climactic "Thousand Love Songs" number was lit by 600 arc lights, bringing temperatures to 110 degrees inside the stage. Conditions caused six chorus girls to faint. Graham also described the chorus as sitting on large blocks of ice; Marion Davies
had over one hundred pounds trucked in throughout the filming of the number in order to make filming easier for the dancers. See more
