The Simpsons had a very different feel in its first ten seasons than in its last fifteen. Though the show we see today can provide a quick laugh or Family Guy-esque antics, the show’s earlier run contained episodes that had heart as well as comedy. It was far from preachy (particularly if you ask a certain First Lady of America during the late 80s) but The Simpsons contained many truly heartfelt moments that would make you think, reconsider your priorities, or even shed a tear.
Comedy inevitably has the potential be just as emotionally fulfilling as drama, because what makes us laugh can reveal just as much about ourselves as what makes us cry. These moments in Simpsons history are what make the series not just a comedy show, but a work of art.

Channel 5 doesn't seem to have much faith in its sci-fi viral mystery, and has bumped it to a graveyard timeslot. Should it just crawl away quietly and die – or does it deserve better?
Here's a hypothetical scenario: a new patient is displaying symptoms of a mystery disease. Their lifesigns are weak but they remain in good spirits. How long before you give up on them? Days? Weeks?
Channel 5 seem to have preemptively thrown in the towel when it comes to sci-fi viral mystery Helix, barge-poling it from 10pm on Mondays to a much later timeslot – a scheduling quarantine that suggests they are essentially washing their hands of the series after only five instalments of a 13-episode run.
It's a shame, because there's something pretty infectious about the show. Admittedly, the premise sounds like something that could be wrapped up in a two-hour movie, an old-fashioned race-against-time thriller like Outbreak (or »

‘Frontline’s’ latest edition couldn’t be more timely: PBS’s investigative news series is examining “Syria’s Second Front” even as peace talks amid the nation’s civil war proceed with no apparent progress. At the start of the three-year-old war, Syrian rebels battled the regime of President Bashar al-Assad. Now they also face factions allied with Al Qaeda that are trying to take over the nation. Jon Stewart would like to congratulate U.S. bobsledder Johnny Quinn on winning the U.S.’s first gold in “bustage” — a new Winter Olympics event in which athletes break down shoddily constructed doors. Quinn competed in “bustage” — the accent is similar to the one in “dressage” — while trapped in a bathroom in Sochi, Russua, site of the games. Stewart says Quinn overcame a competitor better known for breaking down walls: The Kool-Aid Man. Also read: Olympics: Is Julia Lipnitskaia’s Routine ‘Schindler’s List: On Ice’? Russian skater Julia Lipnitskaia’s gold-medal winning performance to John Williams’ theme from “Schindler’s List” has been knocked in some circles as “Schindler’s List: On Ice.” But what would be wrong with that? Also read: Sochi Olympics: Stray Dog, Ring Fail Bring Awkward to the Opening Ceremony (Photos) Katarina Witt first started skating to the music in 1994 in homage to Steven Spielberg’s film and in remembrance of the Holocaust. Since then, as Slate noted, skaters including Irina Slutskaya and Johnny Weir have also used Williams’ music. The 15-year-old Lipnitskaia, like Witt, dressed in red to recall the »

Taking some time off from his busy X Games schedule, Grand National Champion motorcyclist, Brad Baker, spoke to Uinterview about his racing career so far and his dream to have Ice Racing named an official Winter X Games sport for 2015.
For the Winter X Games, Baker participated in a closed ice race with 2012 Grand National Champion Jared Mees and his wife, Nicole Mees, who is also a top flat track racer, sponsored by Harley-Davidson. The race was filmed and edited into a promotional video to air during the games to raise awareness of the sport.
“We’re really just pushing to try to get ice racing to be a part of the X Games, to be a medal competition, so if that happens for next year this will be training for a big time, but the main goal is to get ice racing a part of the X Games, »
