The year is 1916.Mild mannered clerk Clifford Mollinson has a crush on the boss's daughter Wendy Barrie.He wants to join the navy but his boss won't let him.Wilkinson is emboldened to propose to Barrie,this causes her father to sack him.He is commissioned as a lieutenant in the Navy.His training takes 2 years.He meets Wendy at a dance but she barely remembers him.The ship on which Mollison serves is part of the blockade of Germany..Barrie and her father are on a boat that is torpedoed.They are picked up by a boat.Wilkinson is sent to take it over to take it into Liverpool..One of the survivors is Zelda O 'Neill who is far livelier than Barrie.Jamison Thomas is on the ship.He is a German agent who is proposing to make contact with a U boat so that it can take the ship's cargo.This is supposed to be a comedy but despite the best efforts of Marcel Varnel directing his first British feature this film lacks humour.Wendy Barrie is truly awful in an early leading role before her early. departure to Hollywood.Clifford Mollinson was a capable light comedian who gives a capable performance..
