Anytime Disney brings one of their beloved animated classics to Blu-ray, it is cause for much celebration. Dumbo, Walt Disney's fourth animated feature, not to mention the one that saved the studio as a whole from going under, had been hinted at and teased several times over the years, but thankfully, it has finally found its way to the High Definition format, just in time to celebrate its 70th anniversary.
Dumbo tells the story of a young elephant with hysterically oversized ears that finds himself tragically taken from his mother and ridiculed by those around him. Thanks to the most unlikely of friends, Timothy Q. Mouse (a small mouse), Dumbo is able to realize that he's not a freak at all, but actually quite special.
All in all, Dumbo is a rather simplistic tale and is told in a rather short amount of time (total runtime being 64 minutes). Neither of these are detractions though, »
Chicago – The recently-released Blu-ray edition of “Dumbo” not only contains one of the best digital restorations in the history of animation but it includes never-before-seen storyboards and “deleted scenes” from one of Disney’s most timeless and beloved classics. Most of all, this critic was struck by how well “Dumbo” has held up in its 70th anniversary edition. The film remains one of the most enjoyable and delightful pieces of animation ever produced. It is a must-own for not just all Disney fans but all Blu-ray owners, period.
DVD Rating: 5.0/5.0
Disney has produced incredible Blu-ray editions of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,” “Pinocchio,” “Sleeping Beauty,” and more. They’re slowly working their way through their vaults (although a little more quickly with passing time as both this title and “The Lion King” will debut on the format in less than a month’s time). They have truly led the »

Always one of my favorites from Disney, Dumbo has been released as a special 70th Anniversary issue Blu-Ray and DVD. One of the truly magical efforts in the Disney collection, the courageous little elephant has stolen the hearts of viewers since it was first released.
The story itself hardly needs any introduction at this point (though even fans may be surprised when forced to recall that the feature is only 64 minutes long), but the amazing restoration and reissue deserves its own fanfare.
Going back to the original nitrate negative, the film has been restored to its original splendor, and the Blu-Ray looks far better than one could hope, especially considering the original process, and how long ago this was. It's a wonder to behold, and filled to bursting with an amazing palette that really shows off how it was meant to look.
Much like the recent release of Bambi, the »

Disney's Dumbo is flying onto Blu-ray September 20 in celebration of the animated classic's 70th anniversary.
On the September 20 release date you'll be able to choose from two Dumbo Blu-ray and DVD combo packages; one primarily promoting the Blu-ray and the other promoting the DVD. These configurations have become fairly standard for Disney animated catalog releases. A single-disc DVD edition will also be available the same day.
Dumbo on Blu-ray will be presented in its original 1.33:1 full screen aspect ratio and, new for the first time, 7.1 Digital Theater System Hi-Def Surround Sound. The mix was created from a rare film print in UCLA's Film and Television Archives collection that offered access to the earliest surviving generation of the original audio track. The video was meticulously restored from the original 70-year old camera negative using a 1941 re-release print for reference. The result is Dumbo looking like Walt Disney originally intended for »

Ten years ago Dumbo got a 60th Anniversary DVD release, and now, wouldn't you know, it's time for its 70th Anniversary. What's different 10 years later? Blu-ray. As you might expect, Disney is putting out a special 70th Anniversary Edition, remastered in high-def, for special Blu-ray, DVD, and combo pack editions. Personally, Dumbo and Robin Hood are those two unsung champions in the Disney vault that no one seems to give proper tribute to. It's nice to see Dumbo finally making his HD debut on September 20th. To fill you in on the details, we've got a special release trailer, the special features details, and the packaging art - just hit the jump to check them out.

The release of Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 was right about Dumbo coming to Blu-ray this year. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has scheduled the Dumbo 70th Anniversary Edition for release on Sept. 20 on DVD and high-definition Blu-ray.
The Oscar-winning (best music score) animated movie is perhaps one of Disney’s sweetest films, telling the story of a baby elephant in a circus who’s ridiculed because of his incredibly large ears. He’s sent to be a part of the clown acts, but with his only friend, Timothy Q. Mouse, Dumbo proves he’s quite amazing.
Unlike today’s animated films, Dumbo didn’t have a hugely famous voice cast, but the movie is filled with Disney’s usual memorable characters, including those wonderful crows singing “When I See an Elephant Fly.” (Scroll down for a great clip.) Released in 1941, Dumbo was the studio’s fourth animated movie.
