Hilarious, hokey early chiller has much to recommend it, and comes across equal parts spooky and high camp. Its hard to tell who is more idiotic, the hero or the villain. But the bad guy, called "Boris Borodoff" (sound like anybody?), has a preposterous accent that slides from Germanic to Yiddishe in mid-sentence! You can hardly understand a word he says, but that's fine because you're too busy laughing. The natives do some bizarre chanting and dancing and ritualistic mumbo-jumbo that really gets under your skin. The title beast, a giant orangutan, is a cool, wacky-looking real live animal. Only one problem: when he yells, it sounds like a gargantuan beer belch! The first time you hear it, you look around for Barney Gumble! The love interest is a frigid gal with the worst faux-Oxford accent this side of Joan Bennett. A bonafide jungle classic along the lines of WHITE PONGO.

A mad scientist named `Boris Borodoff,' conducts strange experiments involving men and apes. He and his beautiful assistant go deep into the jungle to secure a live ape so he can complete his experiments. This film contains the most laughable ape `growl' ever committed to film.

Beast of Borneo, The (1934)

* (out of 4)

A mad scientist needs certain animals to continue his experiments so he travels to a jungle to locate them including one half man, half ape creature. This low budget shockers only real horror element is the scientist and the man in the ape suit. Even at 63-minutes this thing is deadly dull and lifeless without one thing going for it. The man in the ape suit gets several laughs, which presents this from being a total waste of time.

Hard to find but that might be a good thing.
