Bill Horn and Scout Masterson: Our Toddler's Favorite Books (And Ours, Too!)

18 April 2012 12:41 PM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

Every night, we take turns and get cozy in our super-chic rocker and read at least two (but sometimes as many as five) books to Simone before she goes to bed. So we've read a lot of books in her nearly two years of life. There are some great books for kids, and a surprising number of really awful ones.

There's no telling why Simone gravitates toward certain books over others. We have maybe 50 or 60 for her to pick from, but she seems to always gravitate toward a handful of favorites. As dads, our criteria are pretty basic:

We like books with a point. That doesn't mean the book needs to have a distinct narrative with a beginning, middle, and end. It can be a basic book that showcases different colors. But it needs to be consistent and fun. We've read books that are literally four pages long and make no sense, »

Morning Meme: "The Three Little Pigs" Go On Trial, Brad Pitt Joins "8," and The Muppets Get a Sequel

Stargate's Michael Shanks returns to my television screen this summer in Canadian soap Saving Hope, in which the sexy man will star as a brilliant doctor in a coma, haunting his own hospital while his fiancée played by Smallville's Erica Durance tries to save him.

The Indiana House has backed away from plans to restrict specialty license plates, which many saw as targeting the plate for the gay Indiana Youth Group. Citing how volatile the debate had gotten, sponsor Ed Soliday withdrew the bill.

In a move so savvy it might almost qualify as cynical, Tim Gill has appointed Republican Kirk Fordham to lead his Action Fund.

An Oxford grad has returned his English degree to Exeter over their decision to rent space to the anti-gay Christian Concern conference. I'm assuming this is symbolic, since it doesn't affect his record or references.

The Muppets will be getting a sequel, »

Close up: The Oscars: Quelle surprise? Non

1 March 2012 9:35 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The Oscars offered no surprises as The Artist dominated, Octavia Spencer and Christopher Plummer won best supporting gongs and Meryl streaked home to a best actress win

The big story

And in a flash, the Oscars are done. Dusted. Wept over, then swept into night by Meryl and Jean, Octavia and Christopher.

The light from Hollywood - a powerful beam of gongs and gowns and shock white teeth - lit up even our dank corner of north London. Thank Harvey the Film team were on hand to guide you through the dazzle. Xan Brooks' liveblog - all five hours and 58 minutes of it - followed the night from the red carpet right up to The Artist's best picture triumph. Then Hadley Freeman watched sophistication fall to inebriation at the Variety after party. Finally, our office-bound critics - frazzled and full to burst with Oscar party junk food - took to »

10 January 2012 9:15 AM, PST | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

All Celebrity Big Brother contestants have been given a task where they have to portray fairytale characters. Karissa Shannon, who will play Goldilocks, was called to the Diary Room last night to assign fictional roles for her fellow housemates. She made Frankie Cocozza, Kirk Norcross and Romeo Dunn the Three Little Pigs due to their supposed greediness, while Natalie Cassidy was cast as the material Little Red Riding Hood. Nicola McLean was given the evil part of the Big Bad Wolf, Georgia Salpa plays Rapunzel, and Gareth Thomas is the handsome prince. Meanwhile, she gave twin sister Kristina Shannon the role of Beauty, (more) »
