Trivia

Firefly (Groucho Marx) says, "The Headstrongs married the Armstrongs, and that's why darkies were born," a reference to a 1931 popular song "That's Why Darkies Were Born", written by Ray Henderson and Lew Brown and originally sung by Kate Smith (and later by Paul Robeson). See more »

Goofs

In the mirror scene the reflection, which is Pinky, holds a black top hat behind him (you can see it from the side shot) and Firefly (with his back to the camera) holds a white hat behind him. You can clearly see the black top hat as they do the pivoting around one another. When they put the hats on, the reflection, (Pinky's), hat has magically turned into a white hat. Then after they take the hats off, in the next scene, the reflection, Pinky's, hat turns back to the original black top hat. See more »

Best comedy movie ever made
20 June 2005 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Duck Soup" is so funny that you can watch it with the sound off and you will still laugh hysterically. Of course, then you would miss some of the best dialog in comedy history, especially from Groucho Marx, who may be the funniest human being ever. How many other comedians or comics can you name that have excelled at both physical comedy and at telling jokes? The sight gags are brilliant and perfectly timed; a big influence on other comedies that reaches all the way to "A Hard Day's Night," as well as the "Monty Python's Flying Circus" TV series. Some of the jokes in this movie fly by very fast, so each repeated viewing reveals something new. I believe this movie bombed when originally released, but then again so did "It's A Wonderful Life."
