Several small companies specializing in public domain movies have released Number Seventeen. Beware. Some small distributors market copies of both public domain and copyrighted films with poor picture and sound. Others are more reputable and deliver good transfers of the best available prints. Shop around.

Who is Ben Bolt?

Ben tells Barton that he would have been "Ben Bolt" if Barton had let him. He's referring to the title character in the Thomas Dunn English/Nelson Kneass song, Ben Bolt. He chooses that name, of course, because what he wanted to do was "bolt" from the house.

Who is George Robey?

Ben calls himself "a regular George Robey." He's referring to George Robey (1869-1954), the famous English music hall comedian.
