Jewel Robbery (1932)
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: Oh, they're too heavenly! This necklace--where did you get it?
Robber: At a charity ball.
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: What courage!
Robber: No, merely nimble fingers. The lady stood beside me. The Prince of Wales was announced. I could have removed her dress.
Robber: As a matter of fact, I'm opposed to the American school of banditry. I studied in Paris. You have to work harder but you do acquire a certain finesse that is missing from the stick-em-up and shoot-them-down school.
Marianne Horne: They are silly to expect a woman to tell the truth about what happened when she was alone with a man!
Marianne Horne: What a shame to meet a man like that in a shop.
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: Why a shame?
Marianne Horne: He's the sort of robber one should meet in a Pullman!
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: What do you mean?
Marianne Horne: Didn't you see in the paper?
Marianne Horne: Last week an American woman was robbed in the Simplon Express. Stripped right down to her teddies!
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: *No*!
Marianne Horne: What would you do if you found yourself in your teddies?
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: What would *you* do??
Marianne Horne: Let the train go on!
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: [laughing] Lost soul!
Marianne Horne: When I'm travelling at the rate of 80 miles per hour, I'm not responsible for my actions.
Johann Christian Lenz, Nightwatchman: Always be suspicious. Don't be fooled by anybody. Anything strange, if it ain't more than a mouse's whisker -- call the police.
Robber: There's a man for you!
Robber: You're so lovely. It's hard to be brutal with you.
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: You do strike a fresh note. Up to now, men have always been brutal because I am lovely!
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: There now, you can go!
Marianne Horne: Be displeased with me! I can't help it. I'm a respectable woman and I'm afraid.
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: Don't you think I'm afraid? I shan't close my eyes all night.
Marianne Horne: Well, this is *one* night I shall be very glad to be with my husband!
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: This is awful!
Robber: Why? I'm having a very good time. Won't you sit down?
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: You behave exactly as though you were paying a call!
Robber: I am. After a very brief and informal introduction, I'm now making a formal call.
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: Through the window...
Robber: But only to preserve your reputation. I came very discreetly by way of a drain pipe.
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: That's not legal!
Marianne Horne: [observing diamond rings being placed onto velvet cushions by Hollander] Oh look! All the little jewels going virtuously to bed for Papa!
Hollander the Jeweler: Their Papa prefers them less virtuous. There's no profit in sleeping at home.
Marianne Horne: A-ha! I must remember that!
Robber: The last place anybody would think of looking for me is in your bedroom.
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: Oh, so you expect to stay here until morning?
Robber: I'm forced to. Tomorrow the chase starts all over again. I must have a peaceful night.
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: A peaceful night in *my bedroom?*
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: I'm curious to know how you were led astray.
Robber: Well, I began life as a little boy--
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: I'm glad to hear that you kept to the same sex.
Robber: Yes. It's a family tradition.
Johann Christian Lenz, Nightwatchman: My contract said I was to watch out for burglars, not directors.
Johann Christian Lenz, Nightwatchman: [smoking a 'funny' cigarette, using two phones, one at each ear] Hello. Hello. Hello. This is Napoleon.
Robber: [with a nameless introduction, proposing a toast] Merely man.
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: Merely woman.
Robber: And to whatever joins them.
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: I'm hungry
Robber: That's because you were frightened. There's nothing like a little fear to whet one's appetite.
Robber: [looking vaguely surprised after a gentle slap by Baroness Teri] How intimate.
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: Now, would you be so kind as to introduce me to you?
Robber: Which one of me?
Robber: [being threatened by Teri's gun] Do you want to make a pool of blood?
Baroness Teri von Horhenfels: If you insist.
