Daredevil Recap: “Cut Man”

13 April 2015 5:24 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

New episodic recaps of Daredevil post every Monday and Thursday. Read the recap of the premiere here. Daredevil’s “Cut Man” begins with Matt Murdock finding himself much the worse for wear, waking up bruised, bloodied, and beaten in an alleyway dumpster, only to be discovered by a frightened teenager. The teen brings Matt to the apartment of Claire (Rosario Dawson), a working nurse who is not that pleased with finding a masked, nearly dead man bleeding out on her apartment’s couch. Matt’s been busy, fighting Russian mobsters responsible for kidnapping a young boy from his beaten father, who are now on Daredevil’s tail. Claire, understandably, suggests that Matt be taken to a hospital and treated properly, only to be refused as Daredevil informs her that should he go to a hospital, “they” will kill every patient there in an attempt to get at him. That fight scene in Daredevil was actually done in one shot

13 April 2015 9:26 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

If there has been one moment that everyone has talked about since the launch of Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil, it was the one-shot fight scene at the end of the second episode.

Well, it turns out that really was done in one shot!

Phil Abraham was directing, and it was always scripted that this scene was going to be a one-shot” Philip J Silvera told The Observer. “For me in my head, with the time, we had, I said let’s do wipes and we’ll be able save things. But Phil challenged us to do a pure one-shot, which really just brought a grounded real feeling to the whole thing.”

“We had maybe a few days to set up that fight,” he continues. “You know, most feature films would get weeks to rehearse something like this. Even the remake of Oldboy probably had at least a couple weeks to plan this. »

Why television is the superior medium for comic book characters

Anghus Houvouras on why television is the superior medium for comic book characters…

You hear it all the time: television has become a more interesting medium than the movies. It’s one of those trendy uber-hip things to say when you want to engage in a straw man argument over the superior art form. As I watched the first season of Marvel’s new Daredevil series on Netflix, I found myself for the first time with a salient example of how television is by far the best medium for comic book characters. Let’s catch this train of thought and take it for a ride.

1. Serialized stories work better in serialized installments

Comic books are, by nature, serialized stories requiring multiple issues to complete an arc. Movies struggle to fit the entire history of a character into a single 2+ hour extravaganza. Comic books were made for television adaptations. Good comic »

Daredevil episode 2 viewing notes: Cut Man

11 April 2015 12:24 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Episode 2 of Daredevil offers up one of the McU's best fight scenes ever. Here are James' viewing notes for the Netflix Marvel series...

With the whole series of Daredevil now available on Netflix, the race is on to reach the ending before someone spoils it for you. But that presents us with a problem. How do we approach reviews? It's not much use speculating about the future of the series when it's available at a moment's notice, but watching the whole thing in one go for a single review is impractical for anyone with a day job and personal relationships to maintain – to say nothing of how difficult it is to critically appraise 12 hours of television if you don't savour the instalments properly.

That's why, instead of traditional reviews, we're trying something new. An episode-by-episode unpicking of the show, looking at its techniques, characters and use of the source material. »

Daredevil Episode 2: Cut Man – Review

11 April 2015 2:01 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Luke Owen reviews the second episode of Daredevil

With everything set up in the last episode, it’s time for Daredevil to start introducing some of the other major players of this twisted game. Enter: Night Nurse.

The episode opens up more or less where the last one ended, with Daredevil chasing down the Russians that kidnapped a young lad from his father – only we find Ol’ Hornhead laying in a dumpster all beaten up and stabbed. Thankfully he’s found by the rather helpful nurse Claire, and the two form a rather uneasy bond (particularly after she sees Matt’s face). As Matt recovers from his horrific beating, we get flashbacks of the story of his relationship with his father Jack Murdock, and his unfortunate end.

“Cut Man” has a very clear theme as we see Jack Murdock struggle to be the father Matt needs, mirrored against Daredevil’s »

Daredevil’s red costume revealed in leaked image

8 April 2015 11:23 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

We’re just a day away from the premiere of Daredevil‘s premiere on Netflix, and up until now Marvel has done a fine job at keeping the iconic red costume under tight lock and key. Late Wednesday night, however, a technical glitch may have shattered that secrecy altogether.

Could this new leaked image be our first (low-res) official glimpse at Charlie Cox in Daredevil’s red suit?

According to several sites, the image above came straight from Netflix’s servers and appeared on Reddit before it was swiftly taken down. Several users around the world have also reported that the image shows up when they search for the series on the streaming service. So, did the photo leak early, or is this some elaborate hoax?

We’ll know soon enough, as Daredevil hits Netflix this Friday. Until then, let us know your thoughts about this supposed first image in the comments below. »

During a Reddit Ama, the British actor confirmed the red suit and spoke about putting it on for the first time, as well as the research he did for the role.

“I love both of the suits,” he said. “Obviously it was great to involve the John Romita Jr. black ninja costume but the day I first put on the iconic costume is a day I will never forget.”

“I really love the issues when Matt Murdock is defending the White Tiger,” he added, speaking about his preparation. “It was so cool to read a comic book with such a compelling courtroom scene. I also have to mention Jeph Loeb’s Daredevil Yellow. »
