A pretty good action early talkie
12 August 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

although it was Cecil b.Demille that liberated the sound camera out of the sound proof booth late in 29,talking equipment was very cumbersome. I had thought this was Luis Trenkers first talkie, but I checked it and it wasn't.I feel many of the scenes including ,some of the dialog, was shot silent and the sound effects and dialog was added later, although there are scenes that give the impression of sound recording on the dot too.Luis Trenker plays Turi,a mountain guide,He and his friends are involved in ski Olympics.Renate Muller plays Mary, a tourist from Paris and Leo Puekert plays her father.Mary meets Turi and his two other ski friend when she gets in an accident on the ski slopes. He starts having interest, which later upsets Anni the hired cook, played by Maria Matray. She works and live with his mother, play by Sophie Pagay. Then one of the other tourist,I think Morel, falls interest in Mary too.The problem arises when Turi is asked by Morel to take him on a mountain tour .He comes back by himself claiming that morel wanted to stay in the mountains ,Renate find it strange. The hotel clerk tries to call him ,but, he's not there.A search is made and no one can find him.Luis is charge with possible murder. But the jailer lets him out to ski contest. He finally Finds Morell.Morel was trying to scam insurance company by pretending to be dead to get the insurance company give him money.Luis ends up taking him back With the aid of Renate on a motorcycle bring Turri back just in time for the ski contest. The ski photography is breath taking. I had thought Luis Trenker was tall. But in this film he looked 5 feet 7 or 8. excellent early German talkie and action classic.digital print. Available a German war films dot com.08/12/12.08/14/12 Made a mistake. It was not Morel that Turri took on a mountain tour.It was Gregor Milacz, played by Michael Von Newlinsky
