User Reviews

Film of one act play earns Paul Muni first Oscar nom.

This is an effective performance of a famous one-act play about a man condemned to execution who may or may not be the son and brother who ran away years ago. In long confrontation scenes with possible sister and mom, Muni as the hero convinces them that he is not their brother/son and gives each new hope to go on with their lives. The surprise ending I will not reveal. Worth seeking out- available on 16 mm in private collections and in archive screenings. Muni is wonderfully sensitive and deserving of his Oscar nom.
