The Far Call (1929) - Lost ?
9 August 2016 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

It is my ambition to add as many silent film synopsis of films that have a survival status of unknown or presumed lost. I try to do as much research as I can and it is not my intention to deceive anyone, for sometimes the film does exist. I am more than delighted if someone has knowledge of a film listed as lost but survives, as I wish all silent films did survive. I hope the reader enjoys this brief synopsis.

Pal Loring ( Charles Morton ) is making plans to rob the seal hatchery on St. Paul Island in the Bering Sea and goes to the island to observe and reconnoiter, there meeting Hilda Larsen ( Leila Hyams ), the daughter of the island's governor. Hilda later discovers Pal to be the long-lost son of Paul Webber, who, while living, was a greatly respected member of the island community. Pal then decides not to go through with the robbery. Pal's former henchman, London Nick ( Ullrich Haupt ), sets out to rob the seal hatchery, and Pal fights him off, protecting the baby seals and winning himself a respected place in society.

This 1929 drama was a silent film, with synchronized music and sound effects, directed by Allan Dwan for the Fox Film Corporation. The Far Call is now listed as lost and may have perished in the 1937 Fox Film vault fire.
