Sad Loss For Silent Cinema
28 May 2016 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

As the result of the automobile accident that kills her father, Judith Allen ( May McAvoy ) gradually loses her sight. Bitter and depressed, she breaks off with her fiancé, David Hale ( Leslie Fenton ), and retires to a lodge in the mountains, renouncing God. David learns of her whereabouts and, attempting to reach her during a storm, is badly injured by a falling tree. Judith is at his bedside and, moved by her great love for him, prays for his recovery. David's condition immediately begins to improve, and Judith, her faith in God fully restored, recovers her sight.

This 1926 silent drama was produced by the Fox Film Corporation, starring May McAvoy, and was written and directed by Howard Hawks, his first feature film to direct. A young Carole Lombard had a bit part in this sadly now lost silent film.
