The Boy Friend (1926) -- Lost Silent
14 July 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

This 1926 silent romantic/comedy was based on the play The Book of Charm by John Alexander Kirkpatrick, the film was produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and starred Marceline Day and John Harron. This film also marked the film debut of character actress Elizabeth Patterson. Sadly it now remains a lost silent and all I can provide the reader with is this brief synopsis.

Living all her life in a small-town, named Smallsville, young Ida May Harper ( Marceline Day ) receives letters from her friend in New York, exalting the many pleasure the big city offers. Now all Ida dreams about is living in a social whirl, and begins finding fun in her own hometown, ditching her boyfriend, Joe Pond ( John Harron ) as she joins the party set. Joe sets out to win her back, buying a copy of The Book of Charm, he tries to refine himself and throws a big party to impress Ida.
