Agreeable minor cowboy film.
30 September 2002 | by (Australia) – See all my reviews

The big surprise about this small time western is to find Frank Capra's name listed as title writer. The film is not mentioned in his autobiography. Capra earns his keep with comic spellings and even lettering that's tapered and echoes the sound effects.

The rest of the film is quite agreeable, lighter in touch than might be expected and getting by without a shot fired. The dusty clap board town has the plausible atmosphere that is a feature of these.

Chubby Pete Morrison and his two pards (one of whom is black and has equal status) figure there's no "jackass Stealing" crime and make off with the rancher's donkey, meeting the theatrical troop headed by Marion (father of the star of ANNA CHRISTIE presumably) on the run from their debts. Complications when the boy Pete flattens proves to be a girl.

There's a string tie heavy with an unshaven offsider and a safe robbery before Pete sorts things out.
