'Clara Bow' was originally cast in the role of 'Colleen Moore''s kid sister. After Moore refused to let the director shoot a close up of Bow, fearing she would steal the scene, Bow decided to take her revenge. She drove to her doctor complaining about a sinus condition and requested that he operate on her right away. She came to the set the next day covered in bandages, forcing the company to re-cast her part and re-shoot three weeks of footage which she had worked on. See more »

Painted People ( 1924 ) -- Lost Film
1 August 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

Ellie Byrne ( Colleen Moore ) and Don Lane ( Ben Lyon ) grow up together, friends and neighbors, in the shabby section of a factory town. Don worships Stephanie Parrish ( Charlotte Merriam ), the wealthiest girl in town, while Ellie admires Preston Dutton ( Joseph Striker ), the most sought-after young man. Don goes to the city, determined to get an education, make money, and eventually win Stephanie. Ellie becomes a maid to a prominent actress, five years later she herself has become famous on the stage. Ellie writes a play about her early life of poverty. Don rewrites the play, which, opening in their hometown, is a great success. Stephanie agrees to marry Don, and Ellie gets engaged to Preston Dutton, but before the weddings Ellie and Don realize how hard they worked for each other.

This 1924 silent comedy starred popular silent screen actress, Colleen Moore and actor Ben Lyon. Clara Bow did not appear in the finished film, she appeared in early production footage but she asked to be released from the film and was edited out. Sadly, Painted People now remains a lost film.
