The Girl in the Limousine (1924) -- Lost Silent Comedy
5 July 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

What a sad loss this silent comedy, starring Larry Semon in his first feature, is for silent cinema. It was based on the play " The Girl in the Limousine, " a Farce by Avery Hopwood, Wilson Collison, the film was directed by Larry Semon and Noel M. Smith, produced by Chadwick Pictures Corporation and distributed through First National Pictures. This comedy also featured Oliver Hardy. Surviving film stills show Semon in very hilarious predicaments. All I can offer the reader is this brief synopsis.

Bashful Tony ( Larry Semon ), having lost Betty ( Claire Adams ), the girl of his dreams and loves to his rival, Freddie ( Oliver Hardy ). Tony wanders dejectedly down the street after the wedding ceremony and is kidnapped by two crooks in a limousine, one disguised as a girl. They overpower him and hide him in the girl's bedroom, dressed in her pajamas. Complications result from his efforts to dodge the husband and various guests, and when the crooks steal the girl's jewels, he overtakes them and becomes a hero.
